Early childhood is a time of great discovery! We offer a variety of programs for young children and their parents.
Aquatics
We offer swimming activities for all ages with safety being our first priority. Learn to enjoy the water safely with your child beginning at 6 months. Preschoolers begin to learn basic swim skills from our caring, Red Cross certified instructors with individualized attention.

Connections Preschool
Preschool options for District 196 resident 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds including 4-year-old preschool at 13 school sites across District 196. Every Connections Preschool class gives children an opportunity to interact with other children in fun, engaging activities while learning important skills.
Early Childhood Family Education | ECFE
Parents and their children, birth through prekindergarten, learn in a playful, informal place to meet other parents and young children in a wide variety of classes, one-time events, a family literacy program and several special opportunities.
Early Childhood Screening
Preschoolers between the ages of 3 1/2 and 4 years old who live in District 196 need to participate in a screening before entering kindergarten.
Enrichment (birth to age 5)
Enrich your child's early learning experiences. Activities and athletic programs provide young children with additional opportunities to learn and grow.

Early Childhood Special Education
District 196 offers a range of special education services to support students of all ages. These services support students from birth through age 21 that meet the State of Minnesota’s criteria for special education and who are in need of special education services.
Family School
Parents ... attend Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes and learn parenting skills while your child attends preschool in Family School! Parents and their preschool children can attend school together Monday through Thursday mornings at District 196 learning centers in Apple Valley.
