GED®/ACCUPLACER®/Paraeducator Test Prep

GED refresher courses are offered to adults and focus on basic skills including reasoning through language arts, mathematical reasoning, science and social studies. Practice GED tests are also available. Classes are taught by licensed, caring and patient teachers, Monday through Thursday mornings and evenings in Apple Valley. In Minnesota, individuals who do not have a high school diploma may be able to earn a State of Minnesota GED Diploma by passing the General Educational Development (GED) test. The diploma is recognized as a key to new employment opportunities, career advancement, post-secondary education and personal satisfaction. The diploma is issued by Minnesota Department of Education.

The GED tests consist of four individual tests taken on a computer and include: Reasoning Through Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Science and Social Studies. Test lengths are as follows:

• Reasoning Through Language Arts is 155 minutes (including a 10-minute break)
• Mathematical Reasoning is 120 minutes
• Science is 95 minutes
• Social Studies is 75 minutes

Note: Taking all four tests in one appointment can be completed in about eight hours but most testers take one or two subjects at a time. A valid, government-issued photo ID is required to take the test.

Minnesota GED test takers will be able to take their first test in each subject free while funding lasts. Use promocode MNHSEFREE. You must have a credit/debit card and/or promo code if applicable and register online for the tests at www.ged.com. 

Persons who are:

• 17 years old or older (anyone 17-18 years old must have an age waiver)
• Not enrolled in or graduated from a high school
• Registered online at www.ged.com at least 24 hours before you want to take the test(s).

You must bring and present a valid (not expired) government issued photo ID (e.g. driver’s license, permit, passport).

A total of 580 points or more is required to pass. Only subtest scores of 145 or more can be used to calculate the total score. Subtest scores lower than 145 must be retested.

On the first two retake attempts, per subject area, you may retest without wait time restrictions. All subsequent attempts are subject to a 60-day waiting period between attempts. There is no maximum limit to the number of attempts per student within a year. The retest is given using another test and the cost is $10 per test for the first retest attempt, and $36 per test for subsequent retest attempts. We recommend additional preparation before retesting.
